Tailgate Locks

Woke up this morning to discover that some jackass stole may tailgate last night. I need to find some way of keeping this from happening again. Has anyone tried the McGard tailgate lock? Seems simple. I just wonder what is the most effective way to keep the tailgate on my truck.

I'm sorry to hear about your tailgate loss as that would suck big time. <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/013.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt013' /> This is not the first time I've heard of this before and the caveat is to always be sure to keep your tailgate locked at all times, the same as your doors. Are you saying that your tailgate was already locked and somehow the lock was defeated and your tailgate was stolen or did you fail to lock your tailgate so as to be subject to being stolen?

Is the McGard tailgate lock better in some way than the standard Titan tailgate lock? I never gave any thought to buying an extra, non OEM lock.

You could always cut you loss and return the favor by stealing someone else's tailgate. <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/005.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/005.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/005.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/005.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/005.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' />

Just kidding! That advice may land you in jail. <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/003.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt003' />

I'm sorry to say that I did not lock my tailgate. I never heard of someone stealing a tailgate. Sorry bastard needs it more than I do, I guess. I will of course, be locking mine from now on. I was thinking of the McGard as an added measure. It locks on the tailgate pivot joint so that even if the tailgate were unlocked, you wouldn't be able to remove it without a special tool.

Desert t welcome to the spot. I have never heard of this product. However what would worry me about it is the possibility of losing that tool. I know that to remove anything besides the tiedowns from the floor level utili-tracks that the tailgate must be removed. That is the only reason i have ever removed my tailgate and the only reason i could ever see having to in the future. It sounds like a good product. At first the bit required to unlock the product looks like a star bit often seen on newer pocket knifes however in the video it has much more rounded points then a star bit. Like I said I think if you ever were without that tool and wanted to remove your tailgate that you would be in a world of hurt.

link to a similar product that uses a traditional key.

I apologize for raising an old thread........but I stumbled on to this thread during my first visit here and thought I would throw my .02 cent in. I have owned 2 frontiers and now my first Titan. I have tried to keep my tailgate locked all the time.........scaring myself when I find it unlocked.

Tired of worrying about it.....I purchased an actuator online for $15 bucks and installed it into my tailgate and tied it to the passenger door lock wiring. Now I can lock or unlock my tailgate with my key fob, key or door lock switches. Takes the worry out of the equation.
