We finally got it up here in Canada!!! I have looked at some past posts, but I want some up to date ideas and comments.

1st - Which is better? XM or Sirrius? I like old and new rock like AC/DC, nickleback, Bon Jovi, Supertramp, etc... I have kids who like Britney Spears and a wife who likes what I like and some dance beat stuff.

2nd. - I would prefer to get a portable receiver that I could hook up to my Titan and bring in the house. I saw a unit that can be put into a location on a boom box so it can be portable and I could hook it up into the Titan. My question is, has anybody tried hooking up a portable unit by running wires out from the Sat wires in the stock deck and converting them so they can be hooked up to the earphone, (or other) plug on a portable unit? I know I could use the Aux plug, but I would like to use that for other things (kids MP3 player) .

Well?

I know that XM makes an "XM to go" version that can be moved from the car to the house. My boss has one and loves it. XM also sells the MyFI boxes with some storage space onboard for recording brodcasts.

Siruis has Howard Stern now. I don't know much else about it.

For $250 you can get an iPod nano, and lots of sites have downloadable "Pod casts."

I personally have none of the above because I can't justify the cost. A blank CD is less than .25 US$.

I'm a classic rock fan and XM has to be the absolute worst POS ever. Their music selection SUCKS.

I listen to their "classic rock" station and they play Pat Benetar all the time....their 60s and 70s stations suck.

I have heard the 60s and 70s on Sirius and they are really good. UNLIKE XM they have 3 classic rock stations + rolling stones + bruce springsteen (not my style).

XM can bite me.

sorry i didnt read your post that well the first time I have made a new more thoruogh post

1. The way I would answer your first question is (and this is all opinion and second hand knowledge as I have never used XM) that xm takes one channel and crams different ages of music into one channel like sardines. While sirius has a broader range of music one twice the number of channels. Now while sirius has commercials on their news channels it really doesnt bother me. XM just boasts that EVERY channel on XM is commercial free BIG WHOOP. Sirius has commercial free MUSIC channels.

2. Sirius does have the portable unit you can take it inside and use it and have it in your car both. Although I will tell you from my personal experience using in the house is a waste of time unless your outside becuase you have to have the antenna a yard or mare away from all bulidings unless your in a big city. I have done the hook up with out using the aux cable I am not sure how it is done becuase I had it installed by cruthfield. But I do know that is possible mine is in the tray area above the radio/ac controls. It has pedestal type (as you can see in the picture) deal that runs wires down under the plastic and into the wiring center thing behind the center console radio/ac thing. I dont use the aux port becuase people here and at titantalk have said the volume is bad and becuase I just like sirius better then my ipod music.

Dunno where you got that from...but non-music XM channels are commercial-packed nightmares.

I SWEAR if I have to hear another Xantrex-3 weight pill commerical I'm going to kill someone.

In fact, even on their music channels XM plugs itself and on the 60s and 70s stations the DJs talk and say stupid sh!t....bunch of morons.

In conclusion, XM DEFINITELY plays commercials....MANY in fact. Like I said before, XM is teh suck!

Thanks guys!! I think I get that TriKKy doesn't like XM! <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/003.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt017' />

DC - What you did is exactly what I was asking! I want to put a portable player in that position. I would get a shop (or if somebody gave me the instructions - I would do myself) to make a connection to the SAT wiring on the HU that I could plug and unplug from the portable unit. I wouldn't mind a small hole in the storage tray. I was hoping that a portable unit would have better reception than you say. I was thinking about getting one that docks in a "boombox" and then I could use the boombox when we are in trailer parks in out TT. Most places we go do not get radio reception.

in Canada, Sirrius is $17.24 per month and XM is $14.94.

I was looking at something like this:

Yup! I get XM on Direct TV. They just switched over from the music channels they had before. I listen to the 50's, 60's, and 70's channels and the DJ's do talk way to much. I don't mind listening to the oldies but a DJ trying to be Mr. 1955 sucks!

keane I actually think that if your going to use it outside of a TT that it might work better my problem was that I was in a dorm or in my house a seond floor and I couldnt get the antenna three feet away out from my window the roof was always blocking signal but if you just putting it in a travel trailer and you have it outside you should be good. I put mine in the way you say you want it and I like I have had to replace it once becuase they said the antenna wire was default on mine but that is minimal. i have a sirius boombox. it works great if your outside and ok if your on the first floor and you can get the antenna outside. The antenn needs to three feet away from any obstruction to get signal.

I used to have Dish Network before I moved into my current apartment. I loved it and it had Sirius Radio channels. Come to think of it, I never heard a commercial on there.

a friend here at school told me that all channels were commercial free on XM. Not surprisingly the same friend who wanted the race against me in his land cruiser in this thread:
