Well I just installed my black holes grille that I purchased from Dunder Dan. The grille is of great construction and I am happy with it. The grille was designed as an overlay and it has mounts that use the factory "egg crate".
I first installed the top three pieces and decided that the eggcrate still showed through too much for my taste and decided to cut all of the "egg crate" crap out and figure out my own mounting system. So after about four hours work, and a good washing, this is what I ended up with. I love the way it looks now and the only thing left to do is install the two pieces that I got for the fog light holes.
Steps that I took:
Remove factory grille
Removing the top factory grille was surprisingly easy and it comes out by twisting seven (four on top, three on bottom) plastic retaining clips using a flat head screwdriver. I used a long screwdriver to reach the bottom ones.
Removed chrome overlay shell from "egg crate" bracket
I did this to be sure that I didn't damage any of the chrome while I was cutting the crap out. The outer chrome shell is just clipped on the inner shell and it comes apart with a little patience.
Cut out the crap
Using a sawsall and a dremel, removed the egg crate and left a couple of areas intact around the outside to mount the Dunder grille to.
Mounted the Dunder grille
Reinstalled the chrome shell
Installed the bottom Dunder grille piece
This was the only way that I could get access to the back of the front bumper to tighten the hardware with. Note to future buyers: IMO it is easier to take the top grille out and install all four pieces rather than struggle to tighten things in cramped spaces.
Reinstalled the top grille
Let me know what you think... <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/001.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt013' />
