Leather Seats

I think its a pretty good deal. It is for both front and back seats.

Ive already got leather but I sometimes wish I had cloth.
I'm not very impressed with the cloth seats. I think that I'll likely be getting seat covers by the end of the year. It's very odd having seats that get discolored by water...

There is a guy over at TT by the username cjr02 that has aftermarket leather in his and it is far better than the factory leather. I've seen it in person and it's very nice. You may want to do a search and see where he got it. He told me but I don't remember.
What was the pricing for the conversion of cloth to leather?
You can buy the complete leather kit for anywere from $600-$1000. and then you can figure another $600 or so for installation if you don't want to do it yourself.
cjr02 got his from Katskinz.  Very nice 2 tone for front & rear benches.
Katskinz has some really nice leather. May be worth it if you can get the two-tone interior that they stole away from us.

For a while now I've thought seriously about having my cloth seats replaced with leather. I was just talking this past weekend with my son, who is a Mercedes technician, about having my seats custom upholstered with leather. He suggested that I look into Katzkins. I rather dismissed the suggestion as I always thought they were just some kind of throw-over seat cover but he said they are really good covers.

Since I just a few days ago discussed this, this thread immediatly caught my attention. I went to both the Katzkins and the leatherseats.com websites and both seat coverings look very similar if not the same. I looked at the recommended installers in my zipcode and both list the identically same installers (about 8 listed) in the metro Atlanta area.

So I have several questions. Does anyone know if Katzkins and leatherseats.com are related in any way? Are they two competitors or are they the same business that operates with two separate names? I notice they both offer an option for seat heaters. One of the disadvantages of leather is that it is uncomfortably cold in winter so a seat heater might be a desirable option. My cloth seated SE King Cab does not have a seat heater so I wonder if will allow for the option of a seat heater and how does one control (on/off) the heater option?

Both options look to be comparable to a custom job done from scratch and I think I shall take a more serious look into getting leather seats.

Judging from the registration of their domain names and information gathered from each site, these are two separate companies with separate ownership. I did find something interesting on the Katzkin website:

Leather Interior Supplier Accuses Nissan of Unfair Practices

Katzkin

Posted 2005-07-29 04:54:38

Katzkin Leather, Inc. has launched a lawsuit in the U.S., accusing Nissan of fear mongering. Katzkin, one of the largest manufacturers of leather interior upgrades for the automotive aftermarket, and Sun Auto Tops, Inc., a restyler and one of Katzkin's largest distributors and installers, has filed a lawsuit against Nissan North America, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The suit alleges that Nissan engaged in unfair, deceptive, untrue and/or misleading advertising, unfair business practices, as well as intentional and negligent interference in Katzkin's business relationships, either directly or indirectly, with Nissan's independently owned and operated new vehicle dealerships throughout the United States. The lawsuit focuses on Nissan's threat of increased liability exposure for dealerships that install (or facilitate the installation of) aftermarket leather interiors in any vehicle equipped with Occupant Detection Systems or Occupant Classification Systems. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 will make such sensors mandatory in all new vehicles by September 1, 2006. The lawsuit alleges that Nissan used this threat, one not based on any facts, to promote sales of its own leather interiors over those manufactured by Katzkin. Katzkin and Sun Auto Tops seek both injunctive relief and monetary damages from Nissan.

I recently posted a reply to this thread where I asked the question whether Katzkin and Autoleather.com were one-and-the-same business. Both the www.katzkin.com and www.autoleathers.com websites appear to have identical leather seat covers and the installers for both are the identically same installers.

Since both websites didn’t give much detailed information, I filled out the contact section at the autoleathers.com website and requested they send descriptive literature to me. Today the literature arrived and I discovered that indeed Katzkin and Autoleathers are one and the same business. Autoleather.com is wholly owned by Katzkin Leathers and is their online version of the business.

Inquiring minds want to know! <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/115.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt009' /> If anyone else had the same question, now you have the answer. Below is an image scan of the back page of one of their brochures that tells about the relationship between the two companies, Katzkin and Autoleathers.com.
