04-10 ENGINE OIL CAPACITY FOR ALL TITANS

The 05 owner service manual that came with my Titan lists the engine oil fluid capacity at:

6.50 (U.S. Measure) quarts with OEM oil filter change.

NOTE: This puts the oil ~ 1/2 - 5/8 between the lower and upper marks on the dipstick not at the top = "NORMAL" <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/004.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' />

6.25 (U.S. Measure) quarts without OEM filter change.

The specifications call for the replacement oil to have a rating of:

API Certification Mark *2*3

API grade SL

Energy Conserving *2*3

ILSAC grade GF-III *2*3

NOTE: *2*3 information in Titan manual.

The NISSAN SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE that came with my Titan lists the following MAINTENANCE SERVICE SCHEDULE dates for changing the engine oil and filter:

PREMIUM MAINTENANCE: 3,750 miles or 3 Months

Shcedule 1 Maintenance: 3,750 miles or 3 Months

Schedule 2 Maintenance: 7,500 miles or 6 Months

Note: Use a 14 mm socket to remove the oil drain plug and inspect the copper crush washer for replacement..Item #11026-01M02 price: 75¢

NISSAN OIL FILTER #15208 (Rated 7,500 mile max. or six months) Price: $5.95

AMSOIL OIL FILTER #EA013 (Rated 25,000 mile max. or one year) ..Retail: $17.30 Preferred Customer: $13.15

NOTE: When installing new engine oil filter hand-tighten only.

I use the AmPro T70405 2-step oil filter cup wrench to remove the oil filter ($5.39 @ Advance Auto):

Brand of oil used on todays replacement change: Amsoil Series 2000 0-30W

Brand of oil filter on todays replacement change: Amsoil Ea013

Amount of oil added to engine at todays oil and filter replacment: 6.5 quarts.

6 quart mark on dipstick after engine crank and 3 minute run follwed by 30 minute cool down: ~ 1/8" above the lower mark.

6.5 quart mark on dip stick: ~5/8 distance between upper and lower marks.

6.5 quart mark on dipstick after engine crank and 3 minute run followed by 30 minute cool down: ~5/8 distance between upper and lower marks.

Comments on new oil:

1- First engine start-up @ 50°F ambient temperature results in oil pressure indicator slightly below 3/4 mark and settles to one needle mark above normal setting quickly. Previous 5-30W oil would spike oil pressure indicator to H at same start-up temperature.

2-At 58 MPH my Titan seems to have dropped 50-100 RPM's verses all other oils I've tried in the 04 and 05 Titan.

Tip on oil filling: Stand new empty oil bottles used upside down with cap on and in sun for 30-60 minutes.

One cap full of oil will remain in cap and can be added to engine for complete transfer.

Tip on oil recycling: I brought my used engine and front/rear differential oil to a local speed oil change shop.

They gladly accepted it for free as they have a heating system in the building that filters and burns the used oil in an efficient heating system.

Happy "Engine Oil and Filter Changing!" <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/006.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/003.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt002' />

I'm interested in your data. I too changed my oil and filter today and replaced it with Mobil1 5W30.

The oil drained was Mobil1 as well and I will be sending it in for testing.

I ran mine for right at 6000 miles.

I got the report back yesterday..........I don't have a scanner but it says:

NORMAL

ANALYSIS RECOMMENDATIONS:

NO CORRECTIVE ACTION REQUIRED. OIL IS SUITABLE FOR CONTINUED USE. RESAMPLE AT NEXT REGULAR INTERVAL.

I've got all the numbers on the printout too.

The Mobil1--5-30W had 3,953 miles on it.

So far the Series 2000 0-30W is the best for my Titan. On cold starts the needle doesn't even hit the 3/4 mark and returns to 1 needle above the middle in seconds. Also at 58 MPH my Titan seems to have dropped 50-100 RPM's verses all other oils I've tried in the 04 and 05 Titan.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/006.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt006' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/003.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt006' /> <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/020.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt003' />

Hi Deb.!!! <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/006.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt016' /> I'm thinking 1,000 miles more than the Mobil 1...so at about 5K I plan to dump and test it and change the oil filter too.

If all is good then I'll go another batch and thousand miles more and test again........I'm hoping the 0-30W will last 7,500 miles...that would be my max. for keeping oil at this point unless I find longer is ok.

I plan to use the same type oil and filter I have in now if the results/performance don't change.

OIL Analyzers will make a graph to show the changes in the oil so I plan to stay with them for any future testing. <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/001.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt019' />

Like you're about to lose the coolant hose? Did it leak yet?

It's one of the oil line/hoses about to pop off the right side of the engine oil filter mount...... <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/009.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt004' /> Hadn't leaked yet.....just a heads up on some more hoses to inspect when changing the oil and filter... <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/004.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt021' />

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on this Tom. I make it a habit of ALWAYS checking lines/hoses when I do my oil/filter change. Can I safely assume you used AMSOIL again?

Tom, I only see 5 quarts of 0W-30 in your picture. Your TITAN should require 6.6 quarts of oil. Did you only use 5 quarts?
