04-07 ENGINE OIL CAPACITY FOR ALL TITANS
04-10 ENGINE OIL CAPACITY FOR ALL TITANS
The 05 owner service manual that came with my Titan lists the engine oil fluid capacity at:
6.50 (U.S. Measure) quarts with OEM oil filter change.
NOTE: This puts the oil ~ 1/2 - 5/8 between the lower and upper marks on the dipstick not at the top = "NORMAL" <img src='http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/004.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':smt005' />
6.25 (U.S. Measure) quarts without OEM filter change.
The specifications call for the replacement oil to have a rating of:
API Certification Mark *2*3
API grade SL
Energy Conserving *2*3
ILSAC grade GF-III *2*3
NOTE: *2*3 information in Titan manual.

Brand of oil used on todays replacement change: Amsoil Series 2000 0-30W
Brand of oil filter on todays replacement change: Amsoil Ea013
Amount of oil added to engine at todays oil and filter replacment: 6.5 quarts.
6 quart mark on dipstick after engine crank and 3 minute run follwed by 30 minute cool down: ~ 1/8" above the lower mark.
6.5 quart mark on dip stick: ~5/8 distance between upper and lower marks.
6.5 quart mark on dipstick after engine crank and 3 minute run followed by 30 minute cool down: ~5/8 distance between upper and lower marks.
Comments on new oil:
1- First engine start-up @ 50°F ambient temperature results in oil pressure indicator slightly below 3/4 mark and settles to one needle mark above normal setting quickly. Previous 5-30W oil would spike oil pressure indicator to H at same start-up temperature.
2-At 58 MPH my Titan seems to have dropped 50-100 RPM's verses all other oils I've tried in the 04 and 05 Titan.
Tip on oil filling: Stand new empty oil bottles used upside down with cap on and in sun for 30-60 minutes.
One cap full of oil will remain in cap and can be added to engine for complete transfer.
Tip on oil recycling: I brought my used engine and front/rear differential oil to a local speed oil change shop.
They gladly accepted it for free as they have a heating system in the building that filters and burns the used oil in an efficient heating system.
