Modifying differential
#1
Bought a 2006 Titan SE and found out after that it has an open differential. The slip is only offered in the LE on 4x2 models according to the dealer. Since I don't really want to go trade my truck in on an LE is there a kit available to convert it to a slip differential? I have tried seating the Internet for it and haven't had good results. Any solutions?

Not very familiar with differential work would a Detroit lock be all that is needed? Does that mean the axle is set up from factory to be converted if desired?

Unless you're going rock climbing or four wheeling, you probably don't want/need a locker. What you should look at is the True-Trac differential that a lot of members have, including me, and is virtually a plug n' play swap. Check out the following video to see the True-Ttac in action:

EDIT: There is a PART 2 Video as well.

BruthaDave the True Trac is what you want. It is about $750 or so installed if I remember correctly. You will need some new bearings and other misc items. Look for True Trac on here and you should find a few threads listing all items.

$750 for an installed True-Trac is a bit optimistic pricewise but that is pretty close to what the True-Trac diff alone will cost you.

Back a little more than a couple of years ago I had a True-Trac installed and the following link with a pdf file that itemises the needed parts and a tabulation of costs at that time: http://www.titanspot.com/Titan/index.php...t&p=138380

Check my sig.

I'm back to the new improved OEM rear with E-loc......and the new improved front differential. So far I haven't missed or needed the TruTrac including over 30" of snow this winter.

Guess I'll remove and inspect the TruTrac from the old rear end and scrap it all for projects on the mountain top where I need some steel.....[Image: 009.gif][Image: 003.gif]

Thanks guys I actually spoke to a rep from true trac and am going to go with a limited slip conversion from them. Don't think the locker is what I really need. I don't do any climbing and the only off road I do is at the huntin camp. I do however have to to pull my 23' center console up some pretty steep boat ramps and if I start to spin it will be nice to know the other wheel will grab. Thanks again for the help!

No dice for anything newer than 07 still. Neither Eaton, Currie or Richmond Gear ever came through. Oh, sure you can spend upwards of $3grand for a Dana60, but who can afford that? My luck will be at 100,001 miles my diff will pop and I will end up buying an E-Locker like ScottsBro runs. Only way around One Wheel Peel for me.

Have you tried sand bags in the bed? 3-500 lbs. verses and empty bed makes a huge difference and if you don't use the ramp a lot it will save you some serious money.

good idea on the brake lines, I would defently look into that. The axle ends going on my diff are big bearing 9s. This way I do not have to deal with the c clips or leaking eliminators,
So would you say a 9 inch disk for the rear ?
